Runnels Students Awarded Top Honors in Holocaust Essay Contest


Two Runnels students won first-place in the 2019 Holocaust Writing Contest sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Baton Rouge. 
Senior Julia Sager was awarded first place in the high school division, and 7th grader George Forgey took first place honors in the middle school division. Arthur Donaldson, also a 7th grader, won second place in the middle school division.
The winners were recognized at a special Holocaust Memorial Service held April 28 at Congregation B’nai Israel in Baton Rouge. 
At the event, first-place winners were awarded $50 gift certificates to Barnes & Noble and $50 in cash; second-place winners received $35 gift certificates and $25 in cash; and third-place winners were presented with $35 gift certificates and $20 in cash.      
Runnels English teachers Colleen LeBlanc and Sherry Wilks submitted the essays to the contest.
