Runnels Drama Department To Stage Neil Simon’s ‘Rumors’

The Runnels High School drama department will present Neil Simon’s Rumors for two performances April 4 and 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gladys Hague Runnels Theatre on the school’s main campus, 17255 S. Harrell’s Ferry Rd.
Rumors is a classic farce set in a posh New York home in the ‘80s. It opens as a couple arrives for a 10th anniversary dinner party to find that the food is still defrosting in the sink, the hostess is missing, and the host, who happens to be the Deputy Mayor of New York, has just shot himself. Though the wound is minor, the race is on to come up with a cover story to avoid a scandal. As other guests arrive, whispers start, speculation grows, and miscommunications spiral out of control. It’s farce at its very best cooked up by a master of American comedy.
Actors in featured roles are Daniel Mayeaux, Kayla Evans, Madaleine Alessi, Alex Morgan, junior Aubri Watts, sophomore Preston Kyle, senior Emma Tooraen, senior Carson Badinger, sophomore Marshall Pentes and junior Jackie Hinkle.
Directing the show is K-12 Theatre Program Chair Neena McLain with the assistance of senior Sophia Torres. The stage manager is senior Camille Doucet and the assistant stage manager is sophomore Caroline Collins.
Some of the language in this play may not be suitable for children younger than high school age (PG-13). Parental guidance is recommended.
Advance tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. At the door, tickets are $10 for all. (Online ticket sales close 12 hours before each performance.)
