6 Runnels Seniors to Sign with College Teams


Six Runnels seniors have been recruited by college teams and will be recognized at a signing ceremony in the Runnels Gym on Wednesday, May 2 at 12:00 pm. These students are Lainee Alfonso, Ally Garrity and Max Sager (soccer), Colin Bonine (baseball), Sam Matthews (track), and Jordyn Miller (swimming). 
Soccer player Lainee Alfonso will sign with the Lady Crusaders of William Carey University, an NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) and Southern Athletic Association school located in Hattiesburg, MS. She was recruited as a defensive player and will attend on a soccer scholarship.
Ally Garrity will play soccer for the University of West Alabama Tigers in Livingston, AL, where she has been awarded an athletic scholarship, the Trustee Leadership Scholarship, and the Superior Student Scholarship. Garrity was recruited as a defender by the NCAA Division II Gulf South Conference school.
Max Sager is signing to play soccer for Birmingham-Southern College, an NCAA Division III school in the Southern Athletic Association Conference. He will play outside back for the Panthers on an academic scholarship. 
Colin Bonine has made a commitment to pitch for the Dolphins at Delgado Community College in New Orleans as a freshman in the fall, where he has been awarded a baseball scholarship. Delgado is an NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) school.
Running Raider Sam Matthews was recruited to run track for Texas Christian University, a Big 12 Conference school, as an invited walk-on athlete. He will attend on a National Merit Scholarship. 
Swimmer Jordyn Miller, who recently beat her own record by completing the 100 butterfly in under one minute, will sign with the Birmingham-Southern College swim team in the fall. An accomplished harpist, she was awarded a Fine and Performing Arts Scholarship and a Greensboro academic scholarship.
