Runnels Students Awarded Top Honors in Holocaust Essay Contest
Three Runnels students were honored with top awards in the 2018 Holocaust Writing Contest sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Baton Rouge.
Sophomore Aubri Watts was awarded first place in the high school division, and 8th graders Jacob Schmidt and Mary Aldin Luttrell placed second and third, respectively, in the middle school division.
Winners were recognized at a special Holocaust Memorial Service held April 8 at Beth Shalom Synagogue in Baton Rouge.
At the event, first-place winners were awarded $50 gift certificates to Barnes & Noble and $50 in cash; second-place winners received $35 gift certificates and $25 in cash; and third-place winners were presented with $35 gift certificates and $20 in cash.
English teachers Colleen LeBlanc and Kylie Harbin submitted the essays to the contest.
