Multiple Winners from Runnels at Mu Alpha Theta Math Tournament

The Runnels Mu Alpha Theta math honor society participated in Baton Rouge Magnet High School’s math tournament on March 3, winning 1st-place honors in three events and placing in several others. More than 160 students competed in two divisions, Division 1 (magnet) and Division 2 (non-magnet) at the annual meet.
Participating in Division 2 in the individual tests, 8th grader Reagan Kyle placed 2nd in Geometry, and freshman Marshall Pentes earned an honorable mention in Algebra II. Senior Austin Stansbury finished 3rd in BC Calculus, an event in which both divisions were combined.
In the team events, which again mixed the two divisions, Runnels took 1st place in BC Calculus. On the team were junior Ryan Lam and seniors Alex Matthews, Sam Matthews and Austin Stansbury. In the Algebra I/Geometry team test, Reagan Kyle placed 2nd.
Runnels also finished in 1st-place on the Interschool test, competing in Division 2. All nine Runnels participants, including freshmen Carson Badinger, Evan Beoubay, and Connor Porthouse, participated in this event.
The Runnels club also captured 1st place in the Sweepstakes for Division 2. “For the Sweepstakes,” explained Runnels Mu Alpha Theta sponsor and Jr./Sr. Math and Science Department Head Karen Matthews, “each of our students earns points for placing in the individual, team, and interschool events. The Sweepstakes winner is the school that earns the most points. We did it with only nine kids!”
