Mary Poppins at Runnels, “Practically Perfect in Every Way”!

Bravo! to the cast and crew of our junior and senior high drama department’s delightful production of Disney and Cameron Macintosh's Mary Poppins, The Broadway Musical, which ran for three performances in the Gladys Hague Runnels Theatre Feb. 2-4. Contributing to the play’s dazzling success was an army of more than 90 actors, singers, dancers, musicians, artists, set designers, production crew members, teachers, parents and friends of our school.
Helming this juggernaut of a production was K-12 Theatre Program Chair Neena McLain. Camille Doucet, grade 11, was the stage manager and Jenna Carballo, grade 10, assisted. Seniors Brandon Kelfstrom and Harrison Bonaventure handled the sound board. On the running crew were sophomores Janie Schlotterer and Natalia Toorean, juniors Aaron Taliaferro and Justin Taliaferro, and seniors Victoria Hammond and Alex Matthews. Neena McLain handled the lighting, with set design and construction provided by her high school technical theater classes. Sophomore Karli Hebert served as property mistress, and elementary teacher Julie Horridge tackled costume management. Paul Schacht did front-of-the-house duties and Kayla Evans, grade 11, took care of the playbill and ticket sales.
Music was provided by Aaron Turnipseed on piano, Jesse White on clarinet, Runnels 4th- and 5th-Grade Band Director Shanna Drescher on piccolo and flute, 7th grader Meredith Taliaferro, on flute, senior Sam Day and freshman Caleb Reid on trombone, and elementary teacher John Baird on the upright bass and electric guitar. Runnels 6th-12th-Grade Band Director Jill Swetnam conducted the band, and Aaron Turnipseed provided vocal assistance to the performers. Runnels dance instructor and alumna (Class of 2009) Rachel Hart was the choreographer.
We sincerely thank everyone whose talent, dedication, hard work and enthusiasm helped bring this confection of a musical to life on our stage.
