Runnels Powerlifters Claim Gold at Panther Invitational
The Runnels Powerlifting team scored six medals at the Panther Invitational Meet held at Woodlawn High School on Jan. 13.
Runnels senior Sam Day took first place in the Super Heavy Weight class and set a new record in the deadlift event.
Also earning gold were eighth grader Ryan Roper in the 97-pound weight class and sophomore Julia Sager in the 123-pound weight class.
Bringing home second-place medals were junior Aaron Taliaferro in the 180-pound weight class and his sister, seventh grader Meredith Taliaferro, in the 114-pound weight class. Right behind her to claim third place was freshman Emma Schlotterer.
Seniors Ashley Stansbury and Natalie Justus placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 132-pound weight class. Finishing in the top 10 in their weight classes were juniors Ian Lansing and Steven Spivak and freshman Caleb Reid. Seventh grader Eli Latiolais placed 11th in the 198-pound weight class.
This was the debut meet for more than half of the Runnels competitors.
Directing the team are head coach Mitch Reeves and assistant coaches Tom Babcock, Lonnie Leger, Greg Taliaferro and Mike Day.
