Full-Page Salute to Nationally Recognized Scholars

It was a great pleasure for Runnels School to recognize its 32 nationally recognized scholars with a full-page ad celebrating their academic accomplishments published in the Oct. 8 edition of the Baton Rouge Advocate.
The ad featured a group photo of our 2018 National Merit Semifinalists and Commended Students as well as individual portraits of our 2017 National Merit Finalists and Commended Student and our 32 Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars.
Students’ names and awards were listed beneath their individual photos along with the names of their parents. If the student was a 2017 graduate, the name of the university he or she is now attending also was included.
The ad also provided some eye-opening statistics about the Runnels Classes of 2017 and 2018, to which these students belong. In the Class of 2017, the average ACT score was 26. A full 83 percent of the entire class was eligible for TOPS, and the group produced three National Merit Finalists and one Commended Student. All three Finalists were awarded National Merit Scholarships. In addition, the class earned $3.5 million in scholarships -- over and above TOPS.
The Class of 2018 enjoys an average ACT score of 28! It has four National Merit Semifinalists and three Commended Students. The average GPA of the class, which is 45 members strong, is 3.60.
