Seven Students Qualify for 2018 National Merit Competition
Seven juniors from Runnels High School have qualified for recognition in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. They are Kaylen Howe, Isabelle McCall, Garrett Miller, Alex Matthews, Sam Matthews, Parker Rhinehart, and Austin Stansbury.
These students are among the 50,000 high scorers on the SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) taken by 1,600,000 U.S. high schools last October. National Merit Commended Students and Semifinalists will be chosen from this pool of candidates.
In late September, Commended Students will receive Letters of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Program in recognition of their outstanding academic promise. Semifinalists will be invited to remain in the competition, with the potential of advancing to Finalist standing. All National Merit Scholarship winners will be chosen from the group of Finalists.
