Welcome to the PAR!
Be Involved—Just Say Yes! That's our motto.
The PAR (Parent Association of Runnels), our school's parent-run volunteer organization, works to enhance the Runnels Experience for students and their families by supporting teachers and school programs, sponsoring activities to foster involvement in the school community, organizing fundraising and social events, and promoting volunteer participation.
We encourage you to be a part of the PAR. Whether you want to read to your child's class during library time, pass around the king cake at Mardi Gras, or help plan and staff events like Pictures in the Plaza or Fall Fling, your time and talents are very welcome! If you work full-time, part-time or at home, we can work around your schedule to give you the opportunity to be involved.
Here's a brief outline of opportunities available:
- Bookends: Parent volunteers who read to students in the Elementary Library and assist the librarians with day-to-day tasks such as checking out and shelving books. Bookends also help organize and staff the Fall Used Book Sale and Scholastic Book Fairs.
- Special Events: The PAR hosts annual Daddy/Daughter and Mother/Son dances, Fall Fling and Pictures in the Plaza, and provides snacks and munchies to students on special occasions like Homecoming, Halloween, and Mardi Gras. We also sponsor special holiday and spring break treats.
- Teacher Appreciation: This is our opportunity to thank Runnels teachers for the incredible work they do every day. Activities are designed to pamper these special people in our children's lives and show them how much they are appreciated and valued. Cooks, take notice! Food is heavily involved.
- Fundraising: The PAR sponsors fundraisers/social events to help enhance our children's educational experience at Runnels. In the past, PAR funding has provided assistance with the purchase of playground equipment, Accelerated Reader materials, and technology.
Our 2011 and 2012 fundraiser, Lighten Up!, successfully raised funds to light the exterior pathways around campus.
In 2013 and 2014, we launched a campaign to fund a campus Plaza in collaboration with the Runnels 50th Anniversary Gala.
In 2015 and 2016, we focused on Friendraisers and building a solid, positive Runnels community, one event at a time.
As a parent volunteer board, we are grateful that our children are never asked to sell anything. However, it does make raising funds challenging so please participate or donate to our fundraising events.
To volunteer, please email PAR President Blake Stevenson at email@example.com.
