Both campuses of Runnels School will be CLOSED tomorrow, April 18 due to forecasts of enhanced risks of severe weather in the Baton Rouge area. All activities and field trips scheduled for tomorrow have been postponed. With safety as our primary concern, we are closing out of an abundance of caution. We greatly appreciate your understanding and support of this decision.

About PAR

Welcome to the PAR!

Be Involved—Just Say Yes! That's our motto.

The Parent Association of Runnels, affectionately referred to as the PAR, is comprised of parents interested in providing support to the teachers by enhancing our children's experiences provided by Runnels school.  We encourage you to be a part of the PAR. We welcome your ideas, talent, and time to help us with the many parties and events throughout the year. If you work full-time, part-time or at home we can work around your schedule to give you the opportunity to be involved. Membership is automatic for all parents of children attending Runnels.

Here's a brief outline of opportunities available:

  • Bookends: Is a group of parent volunteers that assist our wonderful elementary librarian with a variety of tasks during the class periods and book fair.
  • Parties: What would elementary school be without parties? We have great coordinators for each class that you can get in touch with to volunteer. It is a great way to get to know your kid’s friends and their parents. Contact your coordinator and ask how you can help.
  • Teacher Appreciation: Is an event in the spring to celebrate those wonderful men and women who shape our children on a daily basis. Activities are designed to pamper these special people and show them how their hard work and dedication is appreciated and valued. The themes and festivities are just amazing. Each year I wonder what they will do next year to top this!
  • Fundraising: We often plan a Fundraiser/Social to generate funds that will enhance our children's school experience by providing technology enhancements, audio/visual equipment, playground equipment, ongoing library improvements including contributing to the Accelerated Reader Program and other projects. It also creates an opportunity for parents to get together.

Our 2011 and 2012 fundraiser, Lighten Up!, successfully raised funds to light the exterior pathways around campus.
In 2013 and 2014, we launched a campaign to fund a campus Plaza in collaboration with the Runnels 50th Anniversary Gala.
In 2015 and 2016, we focused on Friendraisers and building a solid, positive Runnels community one event at a time.

As a parent volunteer board, we are grateful that our children are never asked to sell anything. However, it does make raising funds challenging so please participate or donate to our fundraising events.
