Technology is an integral part of the learning process at Runnels. We are utilizing the latest technologies to enhance the educational experience for all students. SMART Boards are located in all academic elementary classrooms. Nearly all junior and senior high academic classrooms are equipped with interactive projectors and/or Smart Boards.
Through our 1:1 initiative, students in grades 7-12 are issued laptops for use at school and home. Students in grades 4-6 use Chromebooks in academic classrooms.
Our network has a 10 gigabit fiber optic Ethernet backbone operating the next generation of wireless technology in an 802.11n environment. This provides super-fast and reliable access to the Internet and the school’s internal network from locations across the campus. Computer and Internet access is available in every classroom on our main campus.
Runnels has teamed with Lightspeed Systems to provide Internet content filtering. This service will monitor and deny access to inappropriate material while on campus and at home. Policies and safeguards are in place to minimize unacceptable use. Our teachers utilize Classroom Orchestrator, which allows them to monitor and record device activities such as Internet activity and application usage.
Our students learn about the appropriate and responsible use of digital devices through classroom instruction. We emphasize communicating responsibly and showing respect for self and others.
Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
The ethical use of computer-based information is essential at Runnels School. Students will be expected to follow the Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) based on the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards. Both the student and his/her parents MUST sign the AUP before the student will have access to a device. Failure to follow the rules and guidelines set forth in the AUP will result in disciplinary action. Details are located in the Runnels School Handbooks.
