Lower Elementary Curriculum

Students take composition – an important part of the curriculum in all elementary grades - as a separate course in 2nd and 3rd grades.

The curriculum in grades 1-3 is varied and comprehensive and presented within a departmentalized structure. Each student benefits from the complementary approaches of six to nine different teachers, who mainly instruct in their own areas of expertise. Students have eight classes per day, which are each 40 minutes long.  Every academic classroom is equipped with a Smartboard and computers.

Students take classes in math (with some students at each grade level working in Advanced Math), reading, English, science, social studies, spelling, physical education, composition, art, music, and drama. The schedule includes weekly class visits to the Elementary Library, which is staffed by a full-time school librarian. In addition, students in kindergarten through 2nd grade participate in the Home Reader Program, and in the Accelerated Reader Program in grades 1-3.
