Runnels Kindergarten students are introduced to the Singapore Math curriculum. This internationally acclaimed teaching method presents number concepts in a developmentally appropriate manner. The program builds from a hands-on approach to a pictorial mode and finally to a more advanced abstract level. It equips students with powerful problem-solving strategies.
In this subject, children work on refining their language skills, building their vocabularies, and expressing their ideas in writing. They discover new words in context and practice skills involved in reading as they enjoy exploring literature.
Youngsters learn how exciting and valuable science is by observing, listening, and exploring our world through an array of age-appropriate activities such as planting Milkweed in the kindergarten garden to help restore the depleting Monarch butterfly population. Children regularly engage in project-based lessons that incorporate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) concepts.
Dramatic play, literature, and activities of all sorts help children broaden their horizons. Positive character traits, such as learning to share and cooperate with others, are incorporated into the class with the Lion’s Quest program.
Our Imagination Station centers are designed for learning through manipulative activities and small group imaginative play.
This program has five main elements: (1) Basic locomotor skills such as running, hopping and galloping; (2) Basic non-locomotor skills such as balancing, twisting and stretching; (3) Basic manipulative skills such as tossing a bean bag or catching a ball; (4) Basic social emotional skills such as self-awareness, self- confidence and self-control; and (5) FUN!
Handwriting Without Tears
This easy-to-learn curriculum makes handwriting mastery joyful for students.
In a daily art class, children have fun and enjoy opportunities for self-expression through the use of various media. The students paint, draw, model, carve, learn about famous artists and appreciate new experiences.
Music naturally delights children. We hope to help them continue to grow in their appreciation of the beauty of music because, as they do, they will acquire a gift that will bring them a lifetime of pleasure. Their music experiences at school will be enriched through song interpretation, rhythmic activities, developing musical listening skills and playing informal musical instruments.
Every kindergarten student has daily one-on-one instruction in reading and math, in addition to daily small group lessons in those subjects.
