Welcome

Marcia MackayHead of School

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Runnels School! As you explore our site, I hope you’ll get a feel for our warm and supportive school environment and see that Runnels is a place where people matter. It’s also evident from the many smiling faces in the pictures on our site that people enjoy being here.

Runnels is the oldest independent school in Baton Rouge. We are a non-sectarian, coeducational, nonprofit institution. Runnels offers a college preparatory program of studies – with an emphasis on the arts – for students from age 2 through grade 12.  The school and its faculty, administration, and curriculum is fully approved by the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

At Runnels, we have rich offerings in academics and the arts and multiple opportunities for students to participate in team sports. Our talented faculty and staff are passionate about their subjects and experienced in helping students relate to lessons in exciting and inspiring ways.

Small class sizes in academic subjects in all divisions allow students to receive the individual attention they need to thrive.  At Runnels, we view education as a cooperative effort involving students, parents, faculty, administration, and staff.  Our purpose is to inspire creativity and curiosity and encourage the exploration and expression of ideas.  Our goal is for students to become lifelong learners who are well prepared for the intellectual demands and social responsibilities of today's world.

While our site is a wonderful starting point for learning about “The Runnels Experience” and all our school has to offer, the best way to get to know us is to visit us and see our teachers and students “in action.”  Please contact Admissions Director Sarah Haase (admissions@runnels.org / 225.215.5706) to schedule your personal tour.

Thank you for your interest in Runnels School. I look forward to meeting you and your family.

Cordially,

Marcia Mackay
